About

Written from Kalispell. About the places worth your time.

The short version

Montana Moments is a review and guide site for the Flathead Valley and Glacier National Park, written by someone who actually lives here. The valley sits between the Whitefish Range and the edge of Glacier — a stretch of small towns, big lakes, and a national park that draws three million people a year. There’s no shortage of writing about this place. There is, in my experience, a shortage of writing that’s actually useful.

That’s the gap I’m trying to fill.

Who's behind it

I’m Jerad. I’ve lived in Kalispell for years, I run a few small businesses out of here, and I spend a lot of time outdoors with my family. I’m not a travel journalist. I’m someone who’s eaten at the diner forty times, hiked the same trail in four seasons, and watched enough out-of-towners get bad advice to want to fix it.

How we review

  • We pay our way. No comped meals, no press trips, no “in exchange for a review.” If a business comps something, we say so plainly and consider whether we can still write honestly.
  • We visit before we write. Every review reflects an actual visit — usually more than one.
  • We re-check. Restaurants change chefs. Trails close. We try to revisit places yearly and update what’s no longer true.
  • We name the trade-offs. Nothing is for everyone. A good review tells you who a place is for — and just as importantly, who it isn’t.

What you can expect

No fluff

Honest

We’ll tell you when something’s overrated. Especially the stuff with great Yelp reviews.
